Course Overview
Welcome to the American Chaplain's Association chaplaincy training program. This certification course provides the spiritual foundation, practical skills, and professional competencies you need to serve effectively as a chaplain in diverse ministry environments. Through 20 instructional sessions, you'll develop the capabilities required for the "ministry of presence" in contexts where traditional pastoral ministry cannot reach.
What You Will Learn
This program establishes that chaplaincy is a calling to serve as a visible beacon of hope outside traditional church walls. You'll learn to operate in the "plain glass environment" - airports, hospitals, prisons, military installations, corporate workplaces, and emergency response situations - rather than the "stained glass environment" of conventional church ministry. The training emphasizes that chaplains are "sheep healers, not sheep stealers," encouraging spiritual wellness and guiding people toward faith communities without denominational recruiting.
